Whether you're disposing of large items, yard waste, or household materials, the facility supports safe and responsible waste management. Check hours, accepted materials, and fees before your visit.

Hours of operation

Open: Monday to Sunday (7 days a week) from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Closed: Stat Holidays

Refrigerant Item Drop-Off Pause

The Transfer & Eco Station is not accepting fridges, freezers, air conditioners, or other items containing refrigerant from November 1, 2025, to April 5, 2026, due to cold weather preventing safe refrigerant removal.

Service will resume on April 6, 2026. In the meantime, residents can take these items to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre or store them safely until spring.

The map below shows the current site layout. Follow posted signs or ask an attendant for help with bin locations and sorting.

To save time, sort your materials before arriving. Keep Transfer Station items (like branches, yard waste, garbage, metals, and mattresses) separate from Eco Station items (like electronics, recyclables, used oil, and paint).

What to expect on site

  • Fort Saskatchewan residents can drop off yard waste and branches for free with valid ID. (Note: Sod, dirt, and soil are not compostable and will be charged by weight.)

The following items are accepted at the Transfer Station:

  • Branches (small residential amounts only)
  • Construction debris
  • Furniture
  • Roofing materials
  • Tree stumps)
  • Yard waste (small residential amounts only)
  • Sod, dirt and soil
    • **Note this material is not accepted as yard waste. Our composing facility does not accept dirt or sod for processing, this material is directed to the landfill. All users bringing in sod, dirt and soil will be charged by weight for disposal.

Why are sod, dirt, and soil not considered as compostable?

Sod and dirt are mineral soils made up of varying amounts of sand, silt and clay. While these components of soil are vital for plant growth, they do not supply plants or decomposers with nutrients the way organic materials do. Bacteria, fungi and decomposers cannot breakdown mineral soils and turn it into compost. The soil makes turning and aeration difficult and can impact achieving the required temperatures in the windrow for pathogen kill.

The Transfer Station charges dirt, soil, and sod as garbage.
