More items can go in your recycling starting October 1
Beginning October 1, 2026, Alberta’s recycling program is expanding the list of accepted materials. That means more everyday packaging can go in your recycling (blue bag).
Major new items include:
- Paper coffee cups, with lids removed
- Plastic containers, including peanut butter jars, yogurt containers, and plastic tubs
- Flexible plastic packaging, including chip bags, snack wrappers, coffee bags, and bubble wrap
- Styrofoam packaging, such as packaging around TVs and electronics, meat trays, takeout containers, cups, bowls, and plates
- Aerosol containers, such as cooking spray, air freshener, and shaving cream cans. Please ensure the aerosol is fully emptied prior to disposal
The updated list also includes other paper, plastic, metal, foam, and glass packaging.

Note for Transfer & Eco Station
NEW at the Eco Station, accepted recyclables will be collected together and sorted later at specialized facilities. This is called single-stream recycling.
