Information for Voters

Get ready to vote in Fort Saskatchewan’s municipal election! This page outlines voter eligibility, ID requirements, voting station locations, and key dates. Whether you're voting early or on Election Day, find out what you need to bring and how to cast your ballot with confidence.

Election Day is October 20, 2025

On election day, regular voting stations will open at 9:00 am and close at 8:00 pm.

Local transit service will be free of charge on Election Day, October 20.

Eligibility to Vote

You are eligible to vote in the City of Fort Saskatchewan if you are:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A Canadian citizen
  • A resident of Alberta and your place of residence is located in the City of Fort Saskatchewan on Election Day, October 20, 2025.

All Voters may be required to complete a statement of elector eligibility at the voting station. 

Advance Voting

Take advantage of advance voting to avoid the crowds on election day.

Advance voting opportunities are available at the Dow Centennial Centre, Lions Banquet Hall and include:

Election Day Voting Locations

Vote anywhere! Residents of Fort Saskatchewan can vote at any one of the City’s voting stations. Voting stations will be open from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm on Election Day (Monday, October 20) at the following locations:

  • Dow Centennial Centre (DCC) Gym: 8700 84 Street, Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 4P5
  • Fort Saskatchewan Community Hall – Normandy Room: 9964 93 Avenue Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 1N4
  • South Point School Gym: 11 Southpointe Blvd, Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 0T9
  • St. John XXIII School Gym: 9526 89 Street, Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 2X7

Institutional Vote Opportunities

Voters who are eligible for the Institutional Vote may cast their ballots at the following locations:

  1. Dr. Turner Lodge (9422 94 Avenue)
    October 16, 2025, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
  2. Rivercrest Care Centre (10104 101 Avenue)
    October 15, 2025, 2:00 – 5:00 pm

Please Note: Candidates, Official Agents, and Scrutineers may attend an institutional voting station if the vote is set up in a public area of the institution.

ID Requirements

There are two scenarios that will determine what identification you need to bring with you to the Voting Station in order to vote:

  1. Registered Voters are required to show valid government issued identification containing one piece of Government issued ID, including your full name and photograph.
  2. Non-Registered Voters are required to show valid government issued identification containing the voters photograph, name and current address.
    • Those voters unable to produce government issued photo ID, must produce one piece of ID with name, plus a second piece of ID with name and current address.
    • Those voters unable to produce ID with their current address may have a registered voter vouch for them at the Voting Station.

Registered Voter ID Requirements

If you are registered, it is recommended to use one of the following common types of identification:

  • Alberta Drivers Licence
  • Alberta Identification Card
  • Certificate of Indian Status Card
  • First Nation Membership Card
  • Métis Settlement Membership Card
  • Firearm Possession and Acquisition (PAL) Licence
  • Alberta Service Dog ID Card
  • Canadian Passport
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • CANPASS, FAST, or Nexus Card
  • CATSA Identification Card
  • Canadian Forces ID Card
  • Veterans Health Care ID Card

Non-Registered Voter ID Requirements

All non-registered voters will be required to complete a Statement of Elector Eligibility that they are eligible to vote, and will be required to show valid government issued identification containing the voters photograph, name and current address.

It is recommended to use one of the following common types of identification: Alberta Drivers License, or Alberta Identification Card.

Vouching

The province has introduced significant changes to the rules for vouching. An individual vouching is now only allowed to validate another person’s address and not their identity. Due to this change, all voters require valid identification.

An individual can have another registered voter vouch for them if:

  • The individual requesting shows valid identification
  • The individual requesting submits a statement by filling out the required form provided at the Voting Station.
  • The individual requesting is accompanied by another voter who can validate their current address.
  • This voter that is validating an address must be a registered voter on the permanent electors register.
  • An elector may vouch for more than one person if every person the elector vouches for shares the same place of residence.
  • Scrutineers may not vouch for any person.

An elector whose name is contained in the Permanent Electors Register and who is unable to vote at an advance vote or at any of the voting stations on election day may apply to vote by special ballot.

Request a Special Ballot:  Requests for a Special Ballot will be accepted beginning August 1, 2025.

  • By email at elections@fortsask.ca
  • Or by completing the form below

Request a Special Ballot Package (Form 22) Online

You can also Download and Print the Request for Special Ballot Package (Form 22).

Mail-Out Date: Special Ballot packages will be mailed or available for pick up once they become available.

  • Return Options:
    • By Mail:  Attention: Returning Officer, Elections Fort Sask
      (Address: 10005 102 St, Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 2C5) by October 15.
    • Drop it off at the Returning Office by 4:30 pm on Election Day.

Important: Late submissions cannot be accepted, even if the delay is due to postal issues. Send your ballot well in advance to ensure it counts.
