Access to Information and Protection of Privacy

The City of Fort Saskatchewan follows the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Acts to ensure transparency and safeguard personal information. These provincial laws outline how public bodies manage access to records and protect privacy. Effective June 11, 2025, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) has been replaced by the Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act. This is a new provincial legislation that guides how public bodies manage access to records and protect personal information.

This updated legislation includes transparency and accountability measures as well as provisions for privacy protections. It outlines the process for requesting access to records held by public bodies and sets out the requirements for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.

Making an Access to Information (ATI) Request

Any individual may submit a formal request for access to records held by the City.

  • Personal Information Requests:
    If you are requesting access to your own personal information, no initial application fee is required. However, administrative fees may apply in certain cases.

  • General Information Requests:
    If you are requesting access to general information or records that are not your own personal information, a $25 application fee is required. Depending on the scope of the request, additional fees may be assessed.

Fees can be paid by credit card, debit, cash, or cheque. Please do not mail cash.

Accessing Video Surveillance Footage

Some municipal facilities have installed video surveillance cameras. When an incident occurs relating to criminal activity, contact the City's Municipal Enforcement or RCMP who may then submit a request for video surveillance footage.

In the event of a safety concern, contact the Director, Legislative Services at 780-992-6200 to determine if a request to view video surveillance footage is applicable.

Depending on the nature of request for video surveillance footage, the Access to Information Request Form may also be required.
