Councillor Allan Wesley, B.Com, BSc, MA
Councillor Allan Wesley has called Fort Saskatchewan home for more than 40 years. He first moved to the community with his parents while in junior high and, after completing university, chose to return, drawn by the strong sense of connection, community spirit, and extensive trail system. Allan values the way residents support one another and take pride in where they live.
Allan brings a blend of lived experience, professional expertise, and long-standing community involvement to City Council. He lived in Edmonton’s inner city before returning to Fort Saskatchewan, giving him perspective on both urban challenges and the importance of a supportive, close-knit community. He is a three-time University of Alberta graduate, holding degrees in Finance (B.Com), Actuarial Science (BSc), and Economics (MA).
After completing his Bachelor of Commerce, Allan spent several years starting and operating small businesses with his wife, Joy. These experiences shaped his practical understanding of budgeting, risk management, and the realities facing entrepreneurs. Teaching later became his professional focus. Allan teaches Math, Statistics, and Finance in MacEwan University’s School of Business and received the Distinguished Teaching Award, supported by more than 25 student nominations during the COVID period.
Allan’s public policy experience includes work with the Department of Finance in Ottawa, where he contributed to business income tax policy, ministerial briefing materials, and economic analysis. His leadership background also includes training with the Canadian Forces Reserves and senior academic leadership roles at MacEwan University, including serving as Chair of the Programs and Curriculum Committee.
Community service has been central to Allan’s life. He has served as Chair of the Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership, Treasurer of the Fort Saskatchewan Nourishment Centre, and Chair of the Fort Saskatchewan Policing Committee. These roles strengthened his belief in collaboration, volunteerism, and informed decision-making.
Allan ran for City Council to apply his financial expertise, teaching experience, and community leadership to public service. His priorities include responsible financial stewardship, preserving neighbourhood character, advancing a new fire hall, and helping residents better understand how municipal decisions are made.
