Councillor Birgit Blizzard
Councillor Birgit Blizzard was first elected to Fort Saskatchewan City Council in October 2013 and has continued to serve following re-elections in October 2021 and October 2025.
Birgit was born in Haltern, Germany, and immigrated to Sarnia, Ontario with her family at the age of six. She later earned a diploma in Process Operations from Lambton College and worked for nine years as a Process Operator and Third Class Power Engineer with Imperial Oil. In 1993, Birgit moved to Fort Saskatchewan, where she has built her life, career, and long-standing connection to the community.
Birgit has been married for 44 years and is the proud mother of five children and grandmother to six grandchildren. Family and community are central to her life, and she brings those values into her work as a Councillor.
Community involvement has always been an important part of Birgit’s life. Over the years, she has volunteered extensively with local organizations, including the Fort Saskatchewan Ringette Association as an executive member, manager, and assistant coach, and the Blizzard Cloggers as an instructor. She has also served as treasurer for the Fort Saskatchewan Multicultural Association and the Twice But Nice Clothing Society, and as a board member with Family and Community Support Services.
Through her time on Council, Birgit has focused on representing residents with a practical, community-first approach, grounded in her professional experience, volunteerism, and strong local roots.
